RESOLUTION: BE IT RESOLVED that the Business and Professional Women's Clubs of Ontario urge the Ontario Government, through the Ministry of Education, to take appropriate short-term and long-term action to ensure that all school boards implement, through teachers, counsellors and administrative staff, the policy of "Sex Equity" as described in O.S.I.S. in 1984, throughout programs in all elementary and secondary schools to
1) encourage female students to take a broad range of subjects - including science and mathematics;
2) encourage female students to consider a wide variety of career options, including high-tech/computers;
3) use female role models in career counselling;
4) ensure that all educational materials be free of sex stereotyping;
5) that teaching staff eliminate sex discrimination, either implied or manifest, in their work with students;
6) implement a review process to ensure that Section 2.13 of O.S.I.S. on Sex Equity is carried out in all schools; and
FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Business and Professional Women's Clubs of Ontario urge the Government of Ontario to allocate funding for measures which encourage and enhance career planning for female students to meet the realistic needs and changing structure of the Canadian economy and the labour market; and
FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Business and Professional Women's Clubs of Ontario urge the Government of Ontario to ensure that future Ministry of Education policy statements in mathematics and science identify and provide means of dealing with the "math phobia" of female students.
