Canadian Coalition to Empower Women

BPW Canada has spearheaded the establishment of the Canadian Coalition to Empower Women (CCEW) to advance equality between men and women; boys and girls recognizing it is essential to build strong economies, establish more stable and just societies, and improve the quality of life for women, men, families and communities.

The coalition will refer to the UN Women and UN Global Compact Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs) as a general framework when engaging in dialogue with any stakeholders about their role in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment. Our work will encourage all stakeholders to consider corporate commitment to the Principles when making decisions about which businesses, organizations or governments to partner with or to procure from.

BPW Canada, following discussions with the UN Women and UN Global Compact Women’s Empowerment Team determined that much could be gained by broadening efforts beyond the UN WEPs focus on large corporations to include collaboration with small business owners, civil society organizations, government representatives across our nation, and individuals.
